Chongqing Grand Theatre

Overview

Located in the heart of Jiangbei CBD, the Chongqing Grand Theatre sits at East Road of Beicheng Wenhua Street in Jiangbei District. The theater enjoys a prime location overlooking the Chaotianmen Dock across the river and neighbors the Chongqing Science and Technology Museum. Its accessibility is enhanced by Metro Line 6 and the Qieshimen Bridge, which connects to the Jiefangbei CBD and Hongyadong Scenic Area.

Completed on September 1, 2009, the theatre was jointly designed by the East China Architectural Design Institute and a German design firm, with a total investment of nearly 1.6 billion yuan. The building's design concept, "Distant Sail," creates the appearance of a "glass spaceship." Its exterior features light green organic glass that shimmers in sunlight and transforms into a dreamlike spectacle when illuminated at night.

The facility spans 103,000 square meters across seven floors above ground and two underground levels. It houses:

  • Main Theatre: 1,826 seats
  • Medium Theatre: 938 seats
  • Rehearsal halls
  • 72 dressing rooms
  • VIP lounge
