Three Pagodas and Chongsheng Temple
The Three Pagodas are among Dali's clearest historic landmarks. The main Qianxun Pagoda belongs to the Nanzhao-period monument tradition, while the two smaller pagodas date to the Dali Kingdom period. The large Chongsheng Temple complex behind them is a modern reconstruction. These layers can share one scenic area without being described as equally original.

A focused two-hour visit
Begin with the pagoda court and reflection viewpoints. Compare the central square pagoda with the later octagonal pair, then use the Cangshan backdrop to understand why the site is such a strong geographic marker. Only after that decide how far to continue along the reconstructed temple axis.
The full cultural-tourism zone is large. Internal vehicles may save distance, but routes, stops and tickets are live products. Travelers with limited time or mobility should prioritize the pagodas and one lower temple section rather than riding to the far end and rushing back.

Tickets and temple etiquette
Use the official scenic-area website for current admission, opening hours, last entry and maintenance notices. Bring the passport used for any real-name booking. Old pages may list year-round operation, but live severe-weather or event controls still take priority.
The current Trip.com listing shows 07:30–18:30, last admission 18:00, and CNY 73 for the main culture-tourism zone. Treat those as the dated product baseline, then verify your visit date on the official channel or checkout because the separate Reflection Park can appear as a free listing with different hours. The reconstructed temple is an active religious environment within a visitor attraction. Keep voices low, dress respectfully, follow photography restrictions and do not interrupt worship. Architectural scale is not evidence that every hall is historic fabric.
Continue to Dali Old Town
Between the verified Three Pagodas and Dali Old Town, Amap estimates about 1.1 km / 15 minutes on foot in the itinerary direction. Confirm the usable exit and avoid walking on an unsafe road shoulder when traffic controls redirect visitors.

Morning light and clearer air usually improve the mountain backdrop. If cloud hides Cangshan, the pagoda proportions and religious-history interpretation still justify the visit.
Before paying for the internal vehicle, ask which stops permit reboarding, where the final drop-off is and whether it returns to your chosen exit. Walking upward through every reconstructed hall can turn a two-hour landmark visit into half a day; that is worthwhile for temple architecture enthusiasts but unnecessary for travelers whose priority is the surviving pagodas.
