Xizhou Ancient Town
Xizhou is a lived-in Bai town north of Dali Old Town. Its value lies in courtyard architecture, the town plan, food traditions and the relationship between settlement and farmland. The famous field views change with planting, harvest, weather and current access; they should not become the only reason to visit.

A focused half-day walk
Begin at the verified Xizhou Old Town visitor area and establish the central street pattern. Choose one publicly operated courtyard or cultural venue with clear admission, then compare its screen walls, gateways and internal organization with exteriors visible from public lanes. A decorated doorway does not mean the family compound is open.
Allow two to three hours in town. Add xizhou baba as a local food format if the shop has good turnover and clear pricing, but do not treat the first queue as an objective quality ranking. Sweet and savory versions vary by maker.
The public town streets are free and do not share one closing time with every interior. The live listing for Yan Family Courtyard Museum currently shows 08:00–18:00, with admission ending at 16:00; its ticket is separate from walking Xizhou. Confirm that you have the courtyard museum rather than the similarly named residence or a tea-performance product, then check the final price and included interpretation at the staffed entrance.
Field etiquette matters
The photogenic land east of town remains working agriculture. Use designated paths and viewing areas, never step into crops, move farm equipment or pay an unauthorized person to enter a closed plot. Rapeseed, rice and harvest colors are seasonal; an image from another month is not a promise of present conditions.
The 2025 Xizhou field-art festival illustrates how farming, tourism and local business now interact, but temporary installations and event access should not be described as permanent attractions. Check live town notices around festivals and major holidays.
Continue to Zhoucheng
From Dali Old Town to Xizhou, Amap estimates roughly 20.4 km / 33 minutes by car. From Xizhou to Zhoucheng, the estimate is about 6.3 km / 14 minutes by car. Pairing them creates a coherent north-west village day.
Do not combine Xizhou, Zhoucheng, Shuanglang and the whole lake into one checklist day. They sit on different shores and deserve different purposes.
For the return, arrange the pickup point before wandering into the lanes: vehicle restrictions and crowds can move the practical meeting place away from the landmark pin. If you continue to Zhoucheng, write the Chinese destination and workshop contact separately; if you return to Dali Old Town, protect enough daylight to identify the correct vehicle rather than accepting an unsolicited ride.
