Erhai east shore: choose a road day, not an entire-lake race
Erhai is large enough that “loop the lake and stop everywhere” becomes a day inside a vehicle. For a first east-shore visit, make Shuanglang the walking core and Little Putuo the secondary road stop. This preserves time for the lake rather than turning every village into a ten-minute photograph.

Shuanglang as the main stop
From Dali Old Town to the verified Shuanglang POI, Amap estimates roughly 50 km / 59 minutes by car before live traffic, parking or holiday controls. Allow at least three hours in town. Park at a legal signed facility and continue on foot through the compact lanes and public waterfront.
Distinguish public space from hotel or guesthouse terraces. A lake-facing doorway is not permission to enter. Boats to islands, cruises and waterside activities are separate live products; verify their actual pier, weather operation, return point and included admission before buying.

Continue south to Little Putuo
From Shuanglang to the verified Little Putuo POI, Amap estimates about 16.4 km / 28 minutes by car. Stop only where parking and pedestrian access are legal. The small island and nearby water can be atmospheric, but boat access, shoreline levels and winter gull activity are seasonal and operational—not guaranteed components of the route.
Do not feed gulls processed human food or chase birds for photographs. Erhai is a protected drinking-water and ecological system. Follow current controls on litter, fishing, camping, drones, shoreline access and water activities.
Transport and weather
A hired car with a clearly agreed route is usually easier than assembling several informal rides. Confirm whether waiting, parking, tolls and the return to your accommodation are included. If self-driving, avoid stopping on narrow shoulders for a view and verify the destination before entering a village lane.

Strong sun, sudden rain and afternoon wind can change the lake experience quickly. Keep the road day movable, carry protection for both sun and showers, and reduce stops rather than rushing back after dark.
