Yuanjiajie Scenic Area

Overview

Yuanjiajie, located in the northern part of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, is one of the core scenic areas in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Situated at an average elevation of 1,074 meters, this area is renowned for its unique quartz sandstone peak forest landforms, often described as "enlarged bonsai and miniature fairyland."

The area gained international fame as the inspiration for the "Hallelujah Mountains" in James Cameron's Avatar. The Qiankun Pillar, now officially renamed "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain," stands 150 meters tall and served as the prototype for the film's floating mountains. This majestic pillar, with its vertical height and lush vegetation at the summit, has become an iconic symbol of Zhangjiajie's otherworldly landscape.
