Guilin
Guilin, renowned for its dramatic landscape of limestone karst hills and winding rivers, is one of China's most picturesque cities. The name "Guilin" literally means "Forest of Sweet Osmanthus," owing to the many osmanthus trees that perfume its streets.
Located in the northeastern region of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guilin sits along the Li River, which threads through a landscape that has inspired Chinese artists and poets for centuries. The city is famous for its unique karst topography, creating a surreal scenery of limestone peaks that rise dramatically from the ground like giant green teeth. This natural wonder, combined with the crystal-clear waters of the Li River and peaceful rural scenes, makes Guilin one of China's premier tourist destinations.
The city proper offers a blend of natural and cultural attractions, from the iconic Elephant Trunk Hill and Reed Flute Cave to the ancient Sun and Moon Twin Pagodas. The surrounding countryside, particularly Yangshuo and the Longji Rice Terraces, provides some of China's most spectacular rural scenery and opportunities for outdoor adventures.
Guilin Weather
Guilin has a subtropical monsoon climate with mild winters and long, humid summers. The best time to visit is from April to October when the weather is most pleasant. Spring (March-May) offers comfortable temperatures and beautiful scenery as flowers bloom. Autumn (September-November) is also ideal, with clear skies and moderate temperatures. Summer can be hot and rainy, while winter is cool but rarely freezes.
How to Get There
Guilin Liangjiang International Airport serves both domestic and international flights, with regular connections to major Chinese cities and some Asian destinations. The city is also well-connected by high-speed rail, with direct trains from major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. Within the city, buses and taxis provide convenient transportation to various attractions.
