Choose Your Route

Shichahai is a district rather than a gated attraction. Pick one purpose before you start; trying to circle three lakes, enter a mansion, browse Yandai Xiejie and stay for nightlife creates an unnecessarily long day.

Central lakes and hutongs: 2–3 hours

1. Start at Shichahai Station Exit A1 and enter Yandai Xiejie from the east. AMap's checked approach to Yinding Bridge is about 0.3 km / 5 minutes on foot.
2. Continue west to Yinding Bridge, the narrow crossing between Qianhai and Houhai. Pause here to understand how the commercial lane meets the water.
3. Turn south along Qianhai's north and west banks. Use the water as your orientation rather than following every retail lane.
4. Finish at Lotus Market for food or evening light, or continue to Beihai North Station if you are done.

This route gives a first-time visitor the lanes, bridge and lake without forcing a paid interior.

Prince Gong's Mansion plus the lake: half a day

Book Prince Gong's Mansion first and enter in the morning. Allow about two hours inside, then walk toward Qianhai, cross Yinding Bridge and finish in Yandai Xiejie. The ticketed mansion comes first because it has fixed entry rules; the lake walk can expand or contract afterward.

Three-lake walk: about 4.5 km

For quieter water and more urban history, start near the Drum and Bell Towers, pass Wanning Bridge, the Fire God Temple, Qianhai and Yinding Bridge, then continue west toward Xihai Wetland Park and the Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall. AMap models Yinding Bridge to Xihai at roughly 1.5 km / 20 minutes on foot before lakeside detours. This follows the logic of a Beijing tourism route through the World Heritage central-axis area. Boat Tour Options

Boating is a seasonal add-on, useful for seeing the banks from the water but unnecessary for understanding the hutongs. In the March 2026 opening notice, boats operated 9:00–18:00 with ticket sales ending at 17:00 from five piers: Lotus Market, Dibai, Wild Duck Island, Haomeng Jiangnan and the Soong Ching Ling Former Residence. Electric and pedal boats used on-site QR purchase rather than advance reservation. Treat those hours and methods as the current-season baseline rather than a year-round promise.

Wind, storms, water conditions and maintenance can change service. The same notice says night operation flexes with weather and demand, so do not assume a boat runs every evening. Check the day's board or call the operator at 010-66125717 for the open piers, boat types, deposits and live prices before committing your route. If the wait is long, continue on foot and recheck at the next pier.

Bus routes and temporary stops change. Use a live map for the bank or interior you actually chose; “Shichahai” is too broad a taxi destination. Parking is limited in the historic lanes, so metro plus walking is usually the simplest approach.

Winter Activities

1. Xihai Wetland Park

   • Continue west if the commercial stretch around Qianhai feels too busy.
   • Boardwalks, reeds and the longer water view create a calmer finish; allow enough daylight to walk back to a metro station.

2. Evening Entertainment

   • Lotus Market and Houhai have changing bars, cafés and restaurants. The lively commercial strip is a fit only if you want crowds, music and active selling; otherwise cross Yinding Bridge and continue toward quieter Xihai. Check the menu, cover charge and performance schedule before sitting down rather than relying on an old venue list.
