Ciqikou Ancient Town, located in Chongqing, stands as a remarkable testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. This well-preserved historical district attracts millions of visitors annually, offering a glimpse into traditional Bayu culture and Chongqing's historical development.
Historical Background
The town's history dates back to the Song Dynasty when it was initially known as Baiyan. During the Ming Dynasty, it gained significance when Emperor Jianwen of Ming reportedly sought refuge here, leading to the town's temporary renaming as Longyin.

In the early Qing Dynasty, the area became renowned for its porcelain industry, eventually earning its current name "Ciqikou" (Porcelain Port). By 1918, local entrepreneurs established the "Shu Porcelain Factory," producing high-quality ceramics that were exported throughout the region.
During the Republic of China period, Ciqikou flourished as a major trading port along the Jialing River. The town hosted over a thousand establishments, including banks, shops, teahouses, restaurants, and various manufacturing workshops. Daily maritime traffic included over 300 cargo ships, each carrying more than 10 tons of goods.
