Sun Island Harbin

Sun Island has two different visitor propositions. During the confirmed snow-sculpture season, its signature experience is monumental work carved from packed snow. Outside that season, it is a large river-island landscape park with separate venues and variable operations. Do not buy or travel based on a winter image without checking the date.

Winter visit

The snow expo is best in daylight, when relief, texture and shadow remain visible. Give it roughly 2–3 hours depending on the current footprint and cold tolerance. The site is exposed; wind, reflected brightness and long walking distances matter more than the number of sculptures on a saved map.

Walk a coherent circuit rather than crossing the site for isolated internet-famous pieces. Exhibition themes and layouts change each year. At entry, photograph the current map, locate warming rooms and confirm whether any internal transport is running.

Non-winter visit

In warmer months, assess Sun Island as a park rather than an essential Harbin monument. Check which museums, gardens, transport loops or performances are open and priced separately. For a short first trip, the historic centre may deliver more distinctive context; use Sun Island when you want greenery, river landscape or a slower half day.

For the current 2026 green-season reopening, the scenic area announced 08:30–17:00 daily from 3 April. Paid interiors keep their own clocks and prices: the Panda Hall was listed at CNY 49 / CNY 25 concession, ticket sales ending 16:00 and entry ending 16:30; Squirrel Island was 09:00–16:00, CNY 28 / CNY 18. These numbers do not apply to the winter Snow Sculpture Expo, which is a separately dated product.

It is not Ice and Snow World

Sun Island focuses on snow sculpture and landscape. Ice and Snow World focuses on large ice architecture, illumination and rides. They have different gates, tickets and operating seasons. Route planning between the main pins is about 7.3 km by car and can take around 22 minutes before queueing and gate walks.

Best same-day order

For a winter Songbei day, go to the Siberian Tiger Park near opening, continue to Sun Island in daylight, then reach Ice and Snow World before dusk. This sequence uses light deliberately. It is ambitious; remove Tiger Park if the cold, queues or transport begin consuming the margin.

Practical cautions

Wear sunglasses or photochromic lenses when snow glare is strong.
Do not climb or touch sculptures outside permitted interactive zones.
Confirm the exact gate in Chinese: 太阳岛风景区 alone can still lead to a broad park pin.
River crossings and informal ice routes are not substitutes for current managed transport.
Save an indoor warming point and return route before beginning the circuit.

In winter, verify the edition's opening date, daytime ticket, warming facilities and sculpture closures on the current expo notice; never reuse the April green-season schedule for snow season.
