Donghai Island and Longhaitian
Longhaitian is the main reason most travelers visit Donghai Island. Go for an open beach, sunrise or an unhurried walk—not for a dense resort with guaranteed changing rooms, lifeguards and activities. Zhanjiang's own 2025 planning response acknowledged limited visitor centers, toilets, public transport and tourism products, while a May 2026 government meeting described development and legacy-property work as ongoing.
That makes Longhaitian a conditional choice. It suits travelers with a car, a good weather window and half a day to spare. If you only want an easy waterfront stroll, Jinshawan is far simpler.
Decide at the shore, not from a “sunny” icon
Wind, waves, visibility, water quality and active supervision matter more than air temperature. Check the flags and signs at the access point you actually use. Swim only where the beach is officially supervised that day; if there is no marked swimming zone or lifeguard cover, treat Longhaitian as a walking and viewing stop.
The wide sand is the attraction. Start with a 30–45 minute walk near the signed access, then decide whether conditions justify staying for two or three hours. A low, bright morning is best for sunrise and cooler walking. Late afternoon softens the heat, but confirm when the car park or access road closes before waiting for dusk.
Do not drive or ride on the beach, enter construction zones or collect marine life from protected or working areas. Carry water, reef-safe sun protection and footwear for hot sand; shade and open facilities may be uneven.
Use one precise arrival point
Search 龙海天沙滩 and confirm the current public entrance or parking area before leaving central Zhanjiang. Donghai Island is large, and a generic island pin can put you far from the beach access. A recent self-driver reported a short walk from the Longhaitian passenger-service-center car park, but its posted price and payment process are not assumed to be permanent.
Public transport and return ride-hailing are weak reasons to improvise here. If you do not have a car, arrange a round trip with a driver and agree on the pickup point and time in writing. Keep the driver or hotel phone number offline in case mobile reception or app supply is poor.
Half day or full day?
A half day is enough for the beach itself: drive out, walk, rest and return. Make it a full day only if you have confirmed another legitimate Donghai stop or want a long meal break away from the sand. The beach's length is a geographic fact, not a challenge to walk as far as possible.
Official records say the first phase of recent improvements included road surfacing, a coastal walkway base, access roads, toilets and parking. That does not mean every section is finished, open or maintained to the same standard. Use what is clearly operating rather than following an old map through work areas.
Do not force a Naozhou day trip
Donghai Island is also the mainland approach to the ferry for Naozhou Island, but that does not make the two an efficient single day. One 2026 visitor combined them by car, yet ferry queues, rental time and the return sailing can erase the beach stop or strand the itinerary.
Choose Longhaitian for a low-structure beach day. Choose Naozhou for lighthouse and volcanic-coast context, ideally with its own transport block. Never let a swim or sunset push you toward the last island ferry.
