Zhanjiang

Zhanjiang is a spread-out port city on the Leizhou Peninsula. Its strongest first-trip plan is not a single downtown checklist: combine Chikan Old Street, a waterfront evening around Jinshawan, and one full excursion to Huguangyan or an island.

Allow two days for the city, more for islands

Use day one for Chikan and Jinshawan. On day two, pair Huguangyan with the Guangzhouwan architecture walk in Xiashan if transfers line up. Add a third day for Techeng Island, or at least two more days for Naozhou Island because the mainland pier, ferry and island transport make it a separate trip.

Choose the right base

Chikan or Jinshawan gives the simplest access to the old streets, restaurants and north-bay evening walks. Xiashan is better for the former Guangzhouwan buildings and southern urban waterfront. An island stay only makes sense when you accept a slower return and have checked the final ferry.

Build around heat, tides and transfers

Recent independent visitors repeatedly favor early starts, a long midday break and waterside evenings. Ferry timetables can change with weather, tides and seasonal operations. Treat any old fare or departure list as historical, and verify the live notice before leaving the city.

Make the five decisions

Plan Zhanjiang without adding random stops

Choose the trip shape first, then use live booking and transport information for your exact date.

How Many Days?
  • Two days: Chikan and Jinshawan, then Huguangyan plus Xiashan.
  • Three days: add Techeng Island or a dedicated Donghai Island beach day.
  • Four or more days: add Naozhou with an overnight stay and ferry margin.
  • Cut-first rule: remove a remote island before compressing ferry risk into a train day.
Choose Your Route
  • Historic north city: Chikan old port lanes → food stop → Jinshawan at sunset.
  • Geology and south city: Huguangyan in the cool morning → Xiashan Guangzhouwan buildings.
  • Low-commitment island: confirm Techeng ferry → village/coast loop → one-boat-earlier return.
  • Distinctive island: Dongnan Pier → Naozhou overnight → lighthouse and one volcanic-coast section.
Book These First
  • Island passenger-ferry terminal, current timetable, weather status and final practical return.
  • Naozhou lodging exact pin, pier pickup, payment and mainland transfer.

Where to Go Next

Xuwen is the strongest southbound extension for Nanji Village, the Sea of Pineapples and the Hainan ferry. Give it at least one night instead of making a rushed return from central Zhanjiang.
