Haizi Valley: open grasslands and a choose-your-depth mountain day
Haizi Valley (海子沟, Hǎizǐ Gōu) gives the most open high-country feeling of Mount Siguniang's three visitor valleys. The route rises from the edge of Mount Siguniang Town toward grassland and broad views of the peak group, making even a deliberately short day feel distinct from Shuangqiao's bus-led scenery and Changping's forest corridor.
The key is to choose the product before you start. An ordinary front-valley hike can focus on the currently signed grassland-and-peak viewpoint route. Remote lakes such as Great Lake and Flower Lake belong to a much longer outdoor day whose open route, registration, guide and turnaround conditions must be confirmed separately.

For most first-time visitors, the ordinary day is a complete product rather than a consolation route. It preserves time to enjoy the peak panorama, gives the altitude and weather room to change, and fits naturally beside a Shuangqiao or Changping day.
The diagram is a decision sequence, not a wilderness map. Follow current signs and staff instructions; they control which named route is open.
A rewarding ordinary-day sequence
1. Start from the managed Haizi entrance
Use the exact Haizi Valley ticket-office AMap marker, near Mount Siguniang Town. From the neutral town-centre model, AMap calculated roughly 2.1 km / 29 minutes on foot or 2.4 km / 7 minutes by road in August 2026. Check your actual accommodation pin, the morning road and the walking surface rather than applying that civic-centre estimate to every property.
Haizi has no sightseeing-bus product. The ascent starts as a walking day, with regulated horse service available as a separate optional product on eligible open routes.
2. Let the grassland transition be the experience
The front section earns its place through changing perspective: town and valley fall away, trees open into grassland, and the four-peak massif becomes the visual anchor. Chaoshanping can be a useful short-day objective when current signs and staff confirm that route is open. Treat the signed viewpoint or turnaround as the destination, then spend time there instead of letting a promising path pull you into an unplanned lake day.
Clear weather sharpens the peaks; cloud and moving light can still make the grassland worthwhile. Start with enough daylight to pause and return at an even pace rather than racing toward a saved photo point.
3. Turn around while the return still feels generous
At the planned viewpoint, assess weather, trail condition, energy and the safe exit margin. The ordinary product succeeds when the return is part of the day, not a late recovery after an improvised extension. If the signed route changes, keep the same experience goal—open grassland and peak scale—while following the current turnaround.
When the specialist continuation makes sense
Remote objectives such as Great Lake (大海子) and Flower Lake (花海子) should be planned as specialist terrain, not added after the ordinary viewpoint. The official operator reopened only some Haizi outdoor routes from 10 April 2026; it did not declare every named continuation open. A later May notice also reaffirmed that undeveloped and unopened areas remain closed to unapproved hiking, climbing, camping and traversing.
Before choosing a long continuation:
- Ask the official service which named route is open for your date.
- Confirm whether your exact day hike requires outdoor registration, a licensed guide or a separate outdoor product.
- Set the turnaround from daylight, weather and the approved return procedure.
- Carry the food, water and layers specified for that route; facilities become less dependable beyond the ordinary visitor section.
- Keep the route inside the approved corridor. A registration for one activity is not permission to improvise another.
For camping, mountaineering, traverses and other regulated outdoor activity, the official material requires registration with the Outdoor Activity Management Centre and, for camping, a licensed high-mountain guide. The centre's published number is 0837-2791999; scenic rescue is 0837-2791110. Reconfirm both when preparing the trip.
Horse service is a route choice, not an access permit
Haizi's horse service is managed through the official company and priced by distance. Buy at the official counter, then confirm the named endpoint, one-way or return terms, current price, insurance, rider limits and exact dismount point before mounting. Horse availability can change, and a horse does not extend access into a closed or unregistered zone.
The ride still involves mountain movement and exposure. Choose it because it fits the approved route and your day plan, while following the handler's instructions throughout.
The stupa and prayer flags belong to the wider living cultural landscape. Give people and devotional objects space, keep voices low and follow local requests around photography.
2026 tickets, entry and booking
The following Mount Siguniang operator baselines were checked on 21 August 2026:

The normal attraction ticket does not create permission for camping, mountaineering or a remote continuation. Check the official Mount Siguniang notices and Abatour for your date.
For a standalone admission product, check the Haizi Valley single-entry ticket on Klook, then compare the selected date, manual exchange instruction and traveller document against the official process. The product excludes transport, insurance, horse riding and outdoor registration.
International visitors are being received at Mount Siguniang, but the public official notices reviewed here do not document a reproducible foreign-passport checkout and outdoor-registration flow. Before paying, ask the official service to confirm the passport field, payment method, staffed-entry procedure and any separate outdoor-centre requirement.
Weather, altitude and a comfortable finish
Mount Siguniang Town itself is around 3,160–3,200 m, and Haizi begins with climbing rather than a gentle bus warm-up. Move steadily, carry sun and rain protection plus a warm layer, and let staff or medical help take priority if headache, dizziness or breathing difficulty develops. Rain can turn the longer terrain muddy; ice, fire controls, ecological restoration and events can also change what is open.
Pair a short Haizi day with time in Mount Siguniang Town, or place it after a lower-effort Shuangqiao day. The best version is the one that reaches open grassland, gives the peaks time to appear and returns with energy still in reserve.
