Lovers Dam
Overview
Lovers Dam is a romantic coastal landmark in Qingdao, located within the Olympic Sailing Center in the Shinan District. Stretching 534 meters in length and 47 meters in width, this elegant breakwater extends from land into the azure waters of the Yellow Sea.
The dam's history is closely tied to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Originally built as the main breakwater for the Olympic Sailing Center, it was transformed into a public space after the Games. The name "Lovers Dam" comes from a touching story - Chinese sailor Yin Jian, who won gold in the RS:X Women's Windsurfing event at the 2008 Olympics, got engaged to her longtime boyfriend here after her victory.
