Xincun Harbor

Xincun Harbor (新村港) is the mainland water behind Nanwan Monkey Island: fishing boats, aquaculture rafts, Danjia culture and visitor businesses share the same compact town. It is worth a short walk and meal when you want to understand the harbor beneath the famous cableway. It is not an open-access dock attraction. Loading areas, raft landings and restaurant boats can restrict entry, and a merchant's “free boat” may be transport to a purchase rather than a public round trip.

A reliable 90-minute harbor walk

Use 海南疍家博物馆 (Hainan Danjia Museum) as the arrival pin. It is a clearer public anchor than an unnamed pier and gives cultural context before the commercial waterfront. Check its live opening notice; if the museum is closed, the public streets still support a short harbor look, but do not enter staff-only or loading space.

From the museum area:

1. Walk the public waterfront toward 新村中心渔港码头 only as far as signs, gates and active loading allow.
2. Look across the harbor toward the fish rafts and Nanwan cableway. Photograph wide scenes; ask before photographing workers, residents or children at close range.
3. Return through the town's public market streets and choose where to eat only after comparing menus and terms.

Mornings show more working-harbor activity; late afternoon combines better light with an early dinner. Surfaces can be wet, uneven and slippery. Wear grip shoes, stay back from unguarded edges and never step onto a boat or raft without explicit permission from its operator.

Order seafood without a surprise bill

Do not copy a price from a social post: species, size, season, supply and cooking method change the total. Before the seafood is taken away for cooking, confirm these items in writing or on the calculator:

• the species and whether the displayed animal is the one being weighed;
• the weight unit—per 500 g (斤) or per kilogram—and the actual scale reading;
• price per unit and the seafood subtotal;
• cooking method and cooking charge;
• tea, tableware, room, service or boat fees;
• the final estimated total and accepted payment method.

Photograph the scale and agreed total. Decline an unclear species, protected wildlife or any order whose price unit changes during discussion. Choose a licensed restaurant or operator and keep the receipt. A seaborne dining venue is not legitimate merely because it is floating; ask to see the current business or food-service credentials when status is unclear.

Treat every boat offer as a contract

If a restaurant or raft operator offers pickup, ask whether transport is both ways, where and when the return boat departs, what purchase it requires, whether life jackets are provided and what happens in bad weather. Save the mainland pickup pin and operator phone. Never board if the price, return or safety equipment remains vague.

Do not treat foraging on aquaculture rafts, feeding monkeys or entering a village landing as a free attraction. These involve private operations, wildlife and changing access.

Pair it with Nanwan without blurring the products

The Nanwan Monkey Island ticket office (南湾猴岛售票处) is on the western side of Xincun. Pair the harbor meal with Nanwan Monkey Island and Daidai Island only if its dated ticket, transport and last return already fit your day. The cableway view explains Xincun particularly well, but a Nanwan product may substitute ferry transport; read the ticket rather than assuming the cable car.

For an evening-only visit, save 新村夜市 as the pickup area, then select a well-lit roadside point away from fish loading. Ride-hail supply can thin later, so book the return before sitting down and carry your hotel name in Chinese.
