Longyan: choose the tulou experience before the hotel
Longyan is the gateway to three very different Yongding tulou experiences. Hongkeng offers the broadest first-time mix of famous buildings, village lanes and interpretation. Gaobei concentrates the visit around the monumental Chengqi Lou. Chuxi spreads circular and square tulou across a quieter hillside village. The best trip begins by choosing one of those products, not by searching for a single “Fujian Tulou” entrance.

Longyan city is a useful rail, coach and hotel layer. The World Heritage villages sit much farther south in Yongding, so the city view above represents the arrival base rather than the tulou landscape.
Choose the cluster before the hotel
| Product | Go for | Natural pace | Best planning use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hongkeng | Architectural variety, a fuller living village and a strong first introduction | About 2–3 hours when several currently open buildings and lanes are included | Best first cluster; can pair with Gaobei only after road transport is arranged |
| Gaobei | Chengqi Lou's concentric scale and a compact group of supporting buildings | About 1–2 hours | Strong focused visit or a deliberate second stop after Hongkeng |
| Chuxi | Hillside composition, village texture and a slower landscape rhythm | At least 2–3 hours, longer when adding a currently open viewpoint | Separate excursion; especially good for travellers who value setting over a checklist |
The Yongding Tulou Clusters chooser compares exact admissions and road separation. One cluster is a complete product. A combination ticket bundles named admissions; it does not provide transport.
Build a realistic trip
- One day: choose one cluster and give it enough time for architecture, village life and interpretation.
- A fuller road day: Hongkeng and Gaobei are the closest pairing, but only with a confirmed driver, vehicle or other current transfer and a protected return.
- A slower visit: give Chuxi its own half or full day. An overnight near a cluster can add atmosphere, but choose the property by its exact pin, facilities and return arrangement.
Do not plan a three-cluster luggage move from an old itinerary. If all three admissions matter, first secure the road legs and sleeping plan; otherwise cut the third cluster and enjoy the two you can visit well.

This is a product chooser, not a bus map or timetable. It keeps Longyan city, the Hongkeng–Gaobei road pair and the separate Chuxi branch distinct.
Arrive through the node you actually booked
AMap road models checked on 23 August 2026 measured about 80.9 km / 1 hour 6 minutes by car from Longyan Station to Hongkeng. Yongding Station and Yongding Bus Station were closer, but still about 35–36 km from Hongkeng. Longyan is therefore a practical arrival night when train inventory matters; it is not the scenic gate.
Hongkeng and Gaobei were 5.8 km / 10 minutes by car in the same dated model. Chuxi was a separate 27.4 km / 32-minute road model from Hongkeng. These are orientation estimates, not fixed fares, schedules, vehicle access or shuttle promises. Confirm the exact pickup, luggage rule and final return with the selected service.
Compare Longyan city hotels on Trip.com for a rail-arrival night. If sleeping closer to the tulou, compare Yongding District hotels and then map-check the exact property against the chosen cluster.
Meet the three Yongding products
Each cluster rewards a different way of looking. In Hongkeng, compare round and square buildings across a broader village. In Gaobei, read Chengqi Lou from outer wall to concentric courtyards. In Chuxi, step back and see how the village and mountain setting shape the ensemble.
Book the exact product, then visit as living heritage
Use the cluster name on both the ticket and the map. Hongkeng, Gaobei and Chuxi have separate admission products, gates and road approaches. Current building access, upper floors, internal vehicles, hours and foreign-passport redemption remain option-specific; review them before payment and follow the current entrance instructions.
The tulou are protected homes as well as monuments. Public admission does not open every staircase, room or private interior. Stay on marked visitor areas, ask before photographing residents, and treat paid private access or performances as separate choices rather than expected parts of the ticket.
The clean first-trip rule is simple: choose one cluster for its real value, place the hotel around that choice, and arrange every road leg separately.
