Gaobei Tulou Cluster: experience the scale of Chengqi Lou
Gaobei is the concentrated architectural choice. Its centrepiece, Chengqi Lou, turns the tulou idea into a monumental sequence of outer wall, concentric rings and shared courtyards. Nearby Shize, Wuyun and Qiaofu buildings make the visit more than a single photo stop while keeping the product compact.

Build the visit around concentric architecture
Start by reading Chengqi Lou from the outside inward. The massive earth wall expresses enclosure; the internal rings organize communal life at different scales; the courtyards bring light and movement into the centre. Then compare the supporting buildings to see how plan, age and family needs changed the same basic material system.
A 60–90 minute visit suits a focused Chengqi-led route. Allow closer to two hours when you want the supporting buildings, lanes and unhurried architectural comparison. Current public areas and upper-floor access must follow the gate notice and on-site signs.
Decide whether Gaobei stands alone or pairs with Hongkeng
Gaobei is satisfying on its own when monumental scale is the priority. Hongkeng adds broader variety and interpretation. AMap road models checked on 23 August 2026 placed their visitor nodes about 5.8 km / 10 minutes by car apart, making them the most logical two-cluster pair.
That road geometry does not include a shuttle. Arrange the vehicle and return independently. The Hongkeng + Gaobei bundle combines the two named admissions only.
The quieter lane scale balances Chengqi Lou's monumentality and keeps the cluster connected to everyday village space.
Arrive at the Gaobei visitor centre
Use the exact Gaobei / Fujian Tulou King visitor-centre identity rather than a broad Yongding Tulou pin. If you stay nearby, compare Gaobei landmark hotels and verify the property's true distance, road access, luggage handling and international-guest terms.
Chuxi is not a quick continuation: the dated road model from Gaobei to Chuxi was about 32.6 km / 37 minutes by car. Treat it as a separate excursion rather than adding it because a three-cluster ticket exists.
Book the exact Gaobei product
Check Gaobei / Fujian Tulou King admission on Trip.com. It excludes Hongkeng, Chuxi, transport and private access. Adult, child and senior options can have different document and eligibility rules, so read the selected option rather than inferring passport or concession acceptance from the product shelf.
If pairing clusters from Xiamen, compare the private Hongkeng + Gaobei day product only after confirming pickup, both admissions, guide language and cancellation for the chosen package.
Visit a home community, not an empty monument
Chengqi Lou's scale can make Gaobei feel like a single attraction, but residents and protected domestic spaces remain part of the place. Follow posted visitor boundaries, ask before photographing people or private rooms, and do not treat an informal payment as permission to bypass conservation rules. The best souvenir is an understanding of how many lives fit inside the architecture, not access to every staircase.
