Dazu Rock Carvings
The Dazu Rock Carvings are spread across multiple hill sites. A first visit should prioritize the museum, Baodingshan and, if transport and daylight allow, Beishan. The museum-first sequence gives names, themes and chronology before you face a dense cliff of figures.

Use Baodingshan as the anchor
Baodingshan holds the most coherent first-visit circuit and the strongest on-site visitor infrastructure. Follow the directed route slowly; shade and narrow viewing space can change how long each panel takes. Do not touch the carvings or use flash where prohibited.
Add Beishan deliberately
Beishan is closer to central Dazu and rewards visitors who want a quieter, more intimate carving site. It is not automatically included in every Baodingshan product, and current night opening can change. Our Baodingshan–Beishan day route explains when it fits.
Keep the other mountains for specialists
Nanshan, Shimenshan and Shizhuanshan broaden the history but have less predictable public access and transport. Use the five-mountains planner only after confirming opening and arranging a driver who understands the exact sites.
Check the official Dazu Rock Carvings Research Institute for current tickets, closures and route notices. Carry the passport used to reserve. Audio guide availability, deposit rules and return points can change, so verify them on arrival.
