Jiuxiang Cave
Jiuxiang is not “another Stone Forest.” It combines a narrow river gorge, cave chambers, waterfalls, illuminated formations and substantial vertical movement. Choose it when caves and a more physical route appeal more than open limestone panoramas.

What the route involves
The operating sequence commonly combines an entrance descent, a short gorge-boat segment when running, cave passages, waterfalls, stairs and an optional transport product near the exit. Exact inclusions and direction can change. Photograph the current map before committing to the route.
The active Trip.com listing currently shows 08:00–18:00, last entry 16:30, with a CNY 60 basic ticket and a commonly displayed CNY 120 ticket + boat + cableway package. Treat these as the dated checkout baseline, not a promise that every component operates in flood, maintenance or low-water conditions. Open the exact Jiuxiang Scenic Area listing on Trip.com, select the date and read the inclusion list line by line.
Allow roughly 3–4 hours inside plus the outward journey. This is not a low-effort cave visit: there are long stair sections, damp surfaces and changes between cool interiors and outdoor humidity.

Wear shoes with grip, keep one hand free on stairs and carry a light layer. Strong artificial lighting is part of the visitor presentation; it should not be mistaken for the cave's natural color. Avoid flash where prohibited and do not touch formations.
Transport from Kunming
From the Green Lake area to the verified Jiuxiang scenic-area point, Amap gives roughly 102.5 km / 1 hr 25 min by car in ordinary conditions. It returned no usable direct public-transit option for that precise origin and destination. A current organized excursion, hired vehicle or carefully verified combination through Yiliang is more dependable than assuming a direct city bus.
Confirm the return arrangement before entry. Rural frequencies, seasonal services and ride-hailing supply should not be treated like central Kunming transit.
If booking a transfer, require the written pickup point, scenic-area waiting allowance and return time. “Jiuxiang + Stone Forest” in a product title does not prove enough time inside either site, and a one-way drop-off is not useful when app-based cars are scarce. Keep the driver contact offline and save the Chinese visitor-center name.
Jiuxiang or Stone Forest?
Choose Stone Forest for UNESCO pinnacle-karst context, sunlight and broad views. Choose Jiuxiang for cave volume, gorge travel and waterfalls. Combining both creates a long transport-heavy day and usually reduces each site to its busiest section.
When to reconsider
Skip after severe rain if the scenic area issues flood or safety controls. Reconsider if stairs are a major limitation, claustrophobia is severe or a same-evening train leaves little recovery buffer. The cave is worthwhile precisely when it can be its own day, not a hurried extra.
Families should ask about child-height rules for the gorge boat and cableway before purchase; travelers with limited mobility should ask whether lifts bypass only the entrance descent or meaningful cave stairs. A package reduces some climbing but does not make the wet underground route step-free.
