How many days
- Three days: arrival/acclimatization plus one Basum Tso or canyon day.
- Four to five days: add the second excursion and a Lulang–Sejila road day with weather margin.
- Cut first: the longest road loop before removing acclimatization or forcing a late mountain crossing.
Choose your route
- Basum Tso as a separate lake-and-forest day.
- Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon for river scale and conditional Namcha Barwa views.
- Lulang–Sejila for road scenery, forest and pass weather, only on an approved itinerary.

Transport and base
Nyingchi Mainling Airport, Bayi town and the outer scenic areas are far apart. International visitors should use the transport arranged by the licensed agency; independent route improvisation may conflict with permit and checkpoint requirements.
Weather and margin
Cloud decides whether Namcha Barwa appears. Rain, snow, landslides and pass conditions can alter roads; spring blossom and autumn color bring demand but exact timing changes yearly.
Where to go next
Continue to Lhasa only inside the approved itinerary, or extend toward Shigatse with the required agency and permits. Do not treat a lower starting elevation as protection from altitude illness.
