Nanchang
Nanchang is Jiangxi's main transport gateway and a worthwhile two-day city. The first chapter is literary and architectural around Tengwang Pavilion and the Gan River. The second is modern history around the August 1 Uprising Memorial. Keeping those clusters separate creates space for interpretation instead of a long photo checklist.

How many days
One day can combine one pavilion visit with one modern-history venue. Two days give each chapter a half day and leave room for a river walk, food and an onward train. Three days make sense when a provincial museum or another specialist collection has a confirmed reservation and open gallery list.
A complete two-day structure
Day 1: Tengwang Pavilion and the Gan River
Use a dated daytime slot to understand the pavilion's long reconstruction history and the literary legacy of Wang Bo. Continue along one riverbank section according to weather and daylight. Treat night entry, performance and illumination products as separate choices with their own ticket and finish time.
Day 2: August 1 history and the old center
Reserve the main memorial venue first. Follow a focused museum route, then add one nearby historic site only if its current access is confirmed. The wider group of August 1 sites does not guarantee that every building is open together or covered by one booking.
The two planning anchors
Arrival and getting around
Nanchang West handles much of the high-speed rail network; Nanchang Station is closer to the older urban core. Check the station on the ticket before choosing a hotel. Metro connects the main sectors, while the final walk, correct pavilion gate and museum entrance still need map checks.
Use Nanchang as the start of a one-way northern Jiangxi route. Rail connects toward Jiujiang/Lushan and Jingdezhen; Wuyuan still needs a separate village-and-road plan after the station.
Where to stay
Stay near a central metro interchange for a two-day city visit or near Nanchang West for a short rail stop. A Gan River hotel can be scenic but may add crossings to the historic sites. Check the exact side of the river and walking route rather than the neighborhood label alone.
Heat, rain and evening products
Nanchang can be hot and humid. Put indoor interpretation in the hotter part of the day and protect river walking for morning or evening. After heavy rain, verify waterfront access. For night cruises or performances, confirm boarding/venue, assigned time, language, finish and return transport before purchase.
