Kangbashi offers the museum, civic architecture and waterfront; Xiangshawan brings the desert landscape and activities; the Genghis Khan Mausoleum adds a ceremonial and historical visit. These form distinct parts of a trip rather than nearby stops on one urban loop.
Two days: Kangbashi and one main excursion
Use the first day for Ordos Museum, a selected stretch of public architecture and the Ulan Mulun waterfront. If your arrival is too late for the museum, enjoy the waterfront and place the museum in the next available opening window. An evening arrival does not create a full extra sightseeing day.
On the second day, choose Xiangshawan for sand and activities or the mausoleum for history and ceremony. Give the chosen site its own road plan and return. Leave the other excursion for a longer stay rather than squeezing both into the same day.
Three days: give each outer sector its own day
Keep the Kangbashi city day, then assign one day to Xiangshawan and one to the mausoleum. Check opening windows before fixing the order and leave the desert day movable when weather affects your intended activities. Use the evenings for meals and rest instead of adding another distant destination.
If museum collections are your main interest, consider a Dongsheng visit instead of one outer excursion. The Bronze Museum there is separate from the regional museum in Kangbashi; it requires an inter-district journey.
Choose the base before arranging pickups
Kangbashi is a practical base for this city-and-excursions shape. A stay elsewhere in the wider Ordos area changes the transfer plan: use the exact accommodation address when asking for a pickup or a tour quote. For a desert-focused stay nearer Dalad Banner, work out the city transfer separately.
Arrange a licensed driver, an organized product or a confirmed combination of station and scenic buses for outer trips. A car available near your accommodation does not guarantee a return car at a remote entrance.
Confirm the return as carefully as the outward trip
Record the Chinese entrance name, pickup time, vehicle plate or operator contact, luggage plan, waiting arrangement and final destination. Clarify parking and waiting charges with a driver. For a tour, check whether a named attraction means actual entry or only a distant photo stop, and which desert access or activity product is included.
Agree where to meet after the visit and allow for the attraction’s internal transport before your pickup. Keep any station or airport connection separate from the optimistic sightseeing finish time.
