Wanfenglin
Wanfenglin (万峰林) is Xingyi's signature landscape: ranks of cone-shaped karst peaks rising behind working fields and Buyi villages. The satisfying visit has two levels—first read the pattern from the elevated sightseeing road, then spend time among the fields below. Doing only one gives either a postcard with no texture or a village ride with no sense of scale.
Choose your version
For a first visit, allow four to six hours and combine:
- the paid, one-way sightseeing-vehicle loop for panoramas; and
- one lower-valley walk, bicycle or e-bike section around the Nahui villages.
If time or mobility is limited, keep the vehicle loop and skip the lower section. If you are staying inside Wanfenglin and already have a full day, use the vehicle in the morning and explore the villages after a long lunch break rather than riding through the strongest sun.
The panoramic loop
The operator's route links named viewpoints rather than one continuous walking trail. The most useful stops are Jinxiu Tianyuan for the fields-and-village composition, Riyue and Bagua Fields for the sinkhole-shaped agricultural pattern, Bubu Gaosheng for height, and Fenglin Fudi for the broad final view. Keep two or three stops when queues are heavy; getting off at every platform can turn a roughly two-hour circuit into an unfocused half-day.
Vehicles generally run as a loop, so assume you cannot reverse to a missed viewpoint. Ask staff which side has the more open view on that day's direction, and check the last vehicle before leaving a platform late in the afternoon. Recent visitors report fewer available seats at minor lower-valley stops on the return portion, which is another reason not to disembark casually near closing.

Light, weather and fields
Early light usually gives clearer, more even views. Late-afternoon light can be beautiful on the fields and peak edges, but some platforms face into backlight; it is not an automatic photography win. Low cloud can erase the far peak layers while creating a dramatic ink-wash scene. If the peaks are completely hidden, begin in the lower villages and use the upper loop when visibility improves.
The fields are farms, not permanent installations. Rice, rapeseed, newly turned soil and harvested plots create different colours through the year. Stay on public lanes, do not step into crops for a photograph, and ask before photographing residents at close range.
The lower Nahui section
After the panoramic loop, choose a contained line through Shang Nahui, Zhong Nahui or Xia Nahui, following public village roads and the river rather than trying to collect every café and photo prop. An e-bike gives freedom but adds sun exposure and local traffic; ride slowly, wear a helmet, and confirm the battery, return point and permitted roads with the rental shop. Families may prefer a short walk plus lunch.

Food and toilets are easiest near the visitor centre and larger village clusters. Carry water for the exposed viewpoints, but buy from fixed shops rather than relying on a reported free-water offer. Summer sun is serious even when the air feels cool; use a hat and sunscreen.
Reservation and current operation
The official operator currently lists 08:00–18:00 from March through October and 08:30–17:30 from November through February. It also uses real-name, timed reservations during designated summer periods and national holidays. Recheck the latest notice before travel, because road closures, events and vehicle operation can change the usable route.
Bring the original passport or identity document attached to the reservation and the order confirmation. Confirm whether the selected option includes both admission and the sightseeing vehicle. Compare current Wanfenglin products on Trip.com, then use the official Wanfenglin notice page for the final time-slot and closure check.
Fit it into Xingyi
Give Wanfenglin the gentler day in your Xingyi stay. Put Maling River Canyon on another day if you want the full wet-stair route. Wanfeng Lake is optional: its mountain-road and boat logistics make sense only when a specific wharf or viewpoint is worth the extra commitment.
