Qiandao Lake Southeast Cruise
Qiandao Lake's Southeast Lake Area (千岛湖东南湖区) is a separate cruise product with its own mainland pier. Its strongest sight is Huangshan Peak (黄山尖), where hundreds of wooded islands form the classic overlook; Tianchi Island (天池岛) adds old quarry pools and a gentler walk, while Guihua Island (桂花岛) is the optional nature-and-animal stop.
The important 2026 change is operational. Qiandao Lake introduced a water sightseeing bus in November 2025, replacing the old assumption that every passenger must follow one boat and one full-day island sequence. Official local reporting in May 2026 still described one valid ticket allowing travelers to choose among operating boats and vary island stay time. Routes and frequency are adjusted to demand, weather and operations, so a blog's exact sequence is never your timetable.
Go to the correct pier
Navigate to 千岛湖东南湖区旅游码头 (Qiandao Lake Southeast Lake Area Tourist Pier), at 119.076055, 29.585426. Do not use the Central Lake tourism pier: the boarding place, ticket and island network are different.
Arrive 45–60 minutes before the boarding window shown on your confirmation. Bring the passport used to book and allow time for identity checks, ticket collection and finding the correct gate. If arriving from Qiandaohu railway station, arrange the road transfer before the day; the station is not beside the waterfront.
Book by island priority
Check the exact Southeast Lake Area product on Trip.com, then verify the selected date, boarding pier, admission and boat inclusion, passport procedure, child rules, cancellation terms, operating islands and last return. Cableways, performances, animal areas and other activities are separate unless the dated product explicitly includes them.
Current route patterns have included:
- Guihua Island → Tianchi Island → Huangshan Peak: the fullest contrast, but also the longest and least flexible choice.
- Huangshan Peak → Tianchi Island: the useful two-island compromise for scenery plus an easier second stop.
- Direct Huangshan Peak: the cleanest choice when you mainly want the signature panorama or start later.
These are planning patterns, not promised departures. Ask the ticket desk which lines are actually running, the last usable boat from each island and whether staying for a later boat is permitted under your ticket.
A practical full-day sequence
If the three-stop line is operating, treat Huangshan Peak as the non-negotiable stop and the other two as conditional:
- Guihua Island: walk the open public route and keep animal displays optional. Do not feed, touch or chase wildlife, even when a commercial activity encourages it.
- Tianchi Island: use the flatter paths around the quarry pools as the recovery section. Food choice can be limited and expensive, so carry water and a simple snack while following boat rules.
- Huangshan Peak: choose the footpath if the group can manage sustained steps; choose the cableway only after confirming it is operating, the queue and whether it is included. The viewpoint is the reason to protect time here.
Recent travelers report that walking can be faster than waiting for the cableway at busy times, but that is a queue observation—not a guarantee. At every landing, photograph the posted departures and confirm the return with staff before walking away.
Allow six to eight hours from mainland check-in to return for a multi-island day. Keep at least one sailing of buffer before the final return shown on your ticket; wind, queues and loading can consume the margin quickly.
Who should choose another plan
Choose the Southeast area if Huangshan Peak is your priority, you want a full boat-and-island day, and everyone can tolerate gangways, changing surfaces and some steps. Choose the Central Lake cruise instead if its live islands fit you better; choose a relaxed lake stay if a fixed boarding window or a long managed excursion would reduce the holiday.
Do not try to combine Central and Southeast cruise zones in one day. If strong wind, thunderstorms or an official suspension affects boats, switch to a mainland plan rather than treating a commercial listing as proof that sailings will run.
