Tianyi Pavilion and Moon Lake: books, gardens and a slow walk
Tianyi Pavilion gives Ningbo's old centre its most distinctive visit: a historic private-library tradition expressed through courtyards, water, stone and the careful preservation of books. Moon Lake then changes the pace. It is not another intensive attraction, but a flexible public landscape for walking, resting and seeing how the old city grew around water.

Historic books, courtyards and a lake pause
The museum works best when you read it as a system rather than search for one famous room. Notice how walls, planting, water and controlled openings help separate the collection from heat, damp and fire risk. Carved and built details then connect the library story to family, scholarship and the wider cultural life of Ningbo.
Book restoration is still part of Tianyi Pavilion's institutional identity. That makes preservation—not age alone—the useful thread through the visit. Moon Lake provides the contrast: open water, shade and a looser city edge after the concentration of the museum.

These are planning shapes from repeated visitor experience, not promised completion times. Temporary room closures, crowd flow and your interest in inscriptions or architectural details can change the pace.
Walk the Tianyi sequence
Route to the current official entrance rather than relying on a broad scenic-area pin. AMap's nearest exact entry-area candidate was the Tianyi Pavilion ticket office, while searches for a named main gate remained ambiguous. The Tianyi Pavilion Museum pin on AMap is useful for identity; follow current on-site signs for the actual gate.
Begin with the library story, then move through one coherent courtyard-and-garden sequence. Add the stele, ancestral or folk-culture layers selectively instead of treating every room as mandatory. The carved dragon relief is most useful as a close-looking pause: material, depth and weathering reveal more than another rushed façade photograph.

Continue to Moon Lake
AMap's model checked on 21 August 2026 placed the Tianyi entry area about 0.6 km / 8 minutes on foot from Moon Lake. Treat that as outside walking geometry, not a guaranteed route through the museum or a step-free promise.
At Moon Lake Park on AMap, decide the depth after seeing the weather and your energy. A short waterfront pause is enough after a detailed museum visit. A slower day can continue around shaded edges and historic buildings before lunch or the Drum Tower area.

Moon Lake is a separate public space. The image and map pin do not imply a boat, event, open interior or combined Tianyi admission.
Tickets, passport and current entrance
The exact Tianyi Pavilion admission on Trip.com covers Tianyi Pavilion Museum only. It does not include Moon Lake, a guide, transport, temporary exhibitions or another attraction. Before payment, check the selected date, age category, cancellation, accepted traveller document and redemption method.
The current foreign-passport checkout and gate procedure did not close reliably in the official public information. Carry the original passport and leave time for staffed help. Reconfirm the opening window, last entry, current entrance and any closed historic rooms on the visit date rather than relying on an old seasonal timetable.
Pair it without rushing
Ningbo Station was about 1.3 km / 18 minutes on foot from the Tianyi entry-area candidate in the same dated AMap model. This makes the product useful on an arrival afternoon if the museum window still works and your luggage is already handled.
For more interpretation, the optional Ningbo English private guide can be configured around Tianyi, but admission, meals, transport and a chartered vehicle are excluded. Otherwise, keep the day independent and return to the Ningbo guide to choose Ningbo Museum as a separate Yinzhou product.
