Ningxia's strongest first journey begins in Yinchuan, where the Western Xia royal landscape, Helan Mountain rock art and wine region form a coherent western corridor. Zhongwei and Shapotou lie much farther south and deserve their own night rather than a hurried return tagged onto a city day.

Choose three days or five

• Three days: Yinchuan city museums and evening food, one Western Xia day, and one Helan rock-art or winery day.
• Four days: add both a winery appointment and a separate rock-art/film-studio choice without compressing the western corridor.
• Five or six days: continue to Zhongwei for the Yellow River–desert landscape and an overnight stay.

Build the Yinchuan corridor by theme

Western Xia Imperial Tombs needs museum context before the outdoor remains. Helan Mountain rock art adds a much longer human timeline. The wine route is appointment-led and requires a sober driver or transfer plan.

Keep Zhongwei separate

Shapotou combines Yellow River and desert sectors with activity products. It is not evidence that every informal desert crossing near Yinchuan is safe or equivalent. Use official access, confirm what each package includes and stay overnight when you want sunset or stargazing.
