Huzhou: choose the city lakefront, Nanxun or Moganshan
Huzhou is best understood as three different trips within one municipality. Huzhou urban and South Taihu make a light city-and-lake stay; Nanxun Ancient Town combines free canal streets with selected historic interiors; Moganshan is a separate mountain choice between the managed scenic core, Yucun and a wider resort stay. Choose the product first, because these places are not one compact city loop.

The Moon Hotel is a landmark on Huzhou's South Taihu waterfront. It does not represent the whole of Taihu, and the view does not imply access to the hotel, a cruise or a scheduled show.
Choose the base before the itinerary
| Base | Best for | Strong first plan |
|---|---|---|
| Huzhou urban / South Taihu | Rail arrival, old streets, local food and a later lakefront block | Yishang Street + Xiaoxi Street → road transfer → Moon Plaza waterfront |
| Nanxun | Canal fabric, merchant-era architecture and a purposeful overnight | Southern heritage cluster → public canal walk → Baijianlou |
| Moganshan / Deqing | Bamboo landscape, mountain history or a stay-led retreat | Choose managed core, Yucun or wider private resort before booking transport |
Use Huzhou stays on Trip.com for the urban/lakefront branch, Nanxun stays for a water-town overnight, or Moganshan resort-area stays for the mountain branch. Check the exact map pin and international-guest terms: each search covers a wider area than the most convenient visitor base.
One, two or three days
- One day: choose one product. Huzhou urban plus South Taihu is the lightest; Nanxun can fill a day with public streets and selected interiors; Moganshan needs its own transfer-and-mountain plan.
- Two days: pair Huzhou urban/South Taihu with Nanxun, or stay around Moganshan for one managed-core day plus a slower Yucun or resort layer.
- Three days: one day per branch is understandable, but it adds a long cross-municipality transfer and a luggage decision. A more relaxed alternative is two nights around Moganshan or an overnight in Nanxun plus one Huzhou city day.
Cut a changing lake show, an optional boat or a second mountain layer before compressing the main walking experience.
Huzhou urban and South Taihu: old streets, then open water
Begin with Yishang Street Historic and Cultural District (衣裳街历史文化街区) and nearby Xiaoxi Street (小西街). AMap's model checked on 21 August 2026 placed them about 0.3 km / 5 minutes on foot apart, making them the compact urban pair. Use the streets for everyday city texture and food, then move rather than trying to walk all the way to the lake.
Moon Plaza (月亮广场) is a separate South Taihu cluster. The same dated model placed it about 10.8 km / 27 minutes by car from Yishang Street. Arrive later in the day for open-water views and the Moon Hotel exterior, while letting the weather determine how long you stay.
Light shows, fountains, fireworks, cruises, swimming access and private hotel areas can change independently. Treat them as same-day checks, not the reason the city branch works.
Nanxun: free water-town fabric with selective depth
Nanxun Ancient Town is the strongest heritage day. Its public canal streets have been free to enter since January 2023, while protected interiors and boat products remain separate. Start from the southern visitor side when historic interiors matter, then continue toward the longer residential canal fabric around Baijianlou.

A half day works for the public lanes. A full day adds one or two paid interiors. An overnight earns its place through quieter evening and early-morning canal time, not through a guaranteed performance. Huzhou Nanxun Station is the useful rail identity for this branch; it is not Huzhou Station.
Moganshan: choose the mountain product before the room
Moganshan is not one gate or one resort. The managed scenic core suits a selective landscape-and-history day; Yucun gives a lower village base near the planning transfer anchor; the wider Moganshan International Tourism Resort includes dispersed villages and private properties whose rooms may be the main experience.

A property using “Moganshan” in its name does not automatically include scenic admission, internal transport, vehicle access or an open trail. Map-check the property against Yucun and the current scenic entry process before payment.
Arriving without mixing the stations
| Branch | Useful rail identity | Dated road baseline |
|---|---|---|
| Huzhou urban | Huzhou Station (湖州站) | About 8.3 km / 22 minutes by car to Yishang Street |
| Nanxun | Huzhou Nanxun Station (湖州南浔站) | About 7.5 km / 17 minutes by car to the South Gate visitor centre |
| Moganshan | Deqing West (德清西站) or Deqing Station (德清站) | About 10.5 km / 21 minutes or 19.2 km / 31 minutes by car to the Yucun transfer anchor |
These AMap models were checked on 21 August 2026. They are planning baselines, not fixed taxi prices, schedules or proof of a tourist shuttle. Compare live rail inventory before choosing between Deqing West and Deqing Station, and confirm luggage storage with the lodging or arrival facility rather than assuming lockers.
Illustrated guides
The satisfying first decision is simple: choose city and lake, water-town heritage, or mountain stay—then give that branch enough time to become more than a transfer.
