Linzhou
Linzhou sits against the eastern wall of the Taihang Mountains. Its two essential stories are separate: Red Flag Canal explains a modern water-engineering project and collective history; Taihang Grand Canyon is a managed mountain system with shuttle-dependent sectors.

Two days or three
Give Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall and Youth Cave one day. Use a second day for Peach Blossom Valley and Taihang Sky Road. Add a third day for Wangxiangyan, a slower Shibanyan stay or weather margin.
Base by trip purpose
Central Linzhou is best for station, restaurants and the canal. Shibanyan is better for an early canyon start and mountain evenings. A gorge hotel is not automatically convenient for Youth Cave, the railway station or central-city transport.
Congestion can dominate the canyon
Recent visitors describe heavy approach-road traffic and long shuttle queues even on an ordinary Saturday. The official canyon ticket can span 48 hours, but current inclusions and seasonal transport still need checking. Start early, avoid a same-evening train and cut Wangxiangyan before rushing every sector.
Reach Linzhou accurately
Red Flag Canal Railway Station is outside the old city. Current 2026 local information reports bus links to the city and tourist lines toward the canyon and Youth Cave, but times must be matched to your train. Any road route into the gorge uses mountain bends and needs a weather check.
