Shimei Bay–Shenzhou Peninsula Coast
Shimei Bay and Shenzhou Peninsula (石梅湾、神州半岛) suit a Wanning day built around beach walks, a long break by the sea and an optional coastal viewpoint. Choose a main bay before setting off: moving between every named beach can consume the time you wanted to spend on the sand.
Choose your main stop
Choose Shimei Bay for a beach-centered day. Start with a walk along the publicly accessible shore, then settle near a convenient place for food and shade. The appeal is having time to enjoy the beach, rather than collecting several similar photographs from different bays. Clear-water photos depend on weather; they are not a promise of swimming conditions.
Choose Shenzhou Peninsula if you are staying there or want a beach-and-viewpoint outing. Make the nearby beach your main stop and treat the lighthouse area as an optional second outing. Confirm the public approach and vehicle drop-off before going; a lighthouse photo pin does not establish access inside the lighthouse or permission to ride along every coastal path.
The two names cover broad resort and residential areas rather than one compact ticketed attraction. Choose an exact public beach entrance, hotel or restaurant before booking transport. A route to a resort lobby is not necessarily the route to a public section of shore, and hotel facilities are for guests unless the property sells and confirms day access.
Wanning's recent tourism policy gives the areas different emphases—Shimei Bay for diving and Shenzhou Peninsula for motorboat, sailing and windsurfing activity. That helps explain what you may see, but it does not make those activities suitable or available every day. Book only after checking the licensed operator, meeting point, minimum age, swimming requirement, insurance and weather-refund policy.
A relaxed day on this coast
- Start at your chosen bay. Confirm the beach entrance and where you will return for transport. Walk first, while you are deciding where to spend the longer part of the visit.
- Leave room for lunch and a shaded break. This is the time to stay put rather than cross to another bay during the hottest part of the day. Hotel frontage does not automatically include access to its pools, loungers or changing facilities.
- Decide on one final stop. If transport is straightforward and the weather is comfortable, add a second coastal view. Otherwise, enjoy another walk at the same beach and return from the entrance you already know.
Swimming should remain conditional. Follow the flag system and local staff, keep out of water-sport lanes, and do not use a calm-looking photograph as evidence that the sea is safe. After heavy rain, strong wind or a typhoon warning, be ready to replace water time with a shore walk and an indoor meal.
If food is a priority, an alternative is Xinglong town and its market followed by Shimei Bay. Give the inland food stop its own time, then choose one beach for the afternoon. Visiting Xinglong town does not include a visit to the separate Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden.
Getting between the bays
Wanning announced a tourist line connecting the city with Shenzhou Peninsula, Shimei Bay and Riyue Bay in February 2026. That announcement confirms a connection, not today's departure times. Check the stop for your actual entrance, the next departure and the final return before relying on it for several stops.
Without a car, one bay with a confirmed return is the simplest plan. If arranging a driver, agree on the pickup entrance and the optional second stop before leaving. Holiday queues and parking can make a short-looking coastal detour take much longer than expected.
Shenzhou Railway Station is useful only if the first and last transfers line up with your train. It is not a beach entrance. Keep enough buffer to travel back from the coast, especially on weekends and public holidays, and avoid scheduling a same-evening flight around an optimistic coastal pickup.
What to bring
Bring drinking water, sun protection and footwear that can handle hot paving as well as sand. A light rain layer is useful in tropical showers. Keep valuables out of sight when swimming and use only a staffed storage option whose terms you understand. Public showers, lockers and toilets vary by entrance, so ask at the exact place you plan to use rather than assuming the whole bay has the same facilities.
Fit it into the trip
Use the Wanning guide to choose your base. Put Riyue Bay on a separate day if surfing is a priority: a lesson, changing and eating already give that outing a natural rhythm. There is no need to visit all three bay areas in one day.
