Weihai: choose a central history coast or a Rongcheng headland base
Weihai works best as two different coastal trips. Central Weihai combines an easy bayfront, compact city landmarks and the ferry-dependent history day on Liugong Island. Rongcheng, farther east, is the deliberate base for Chengshantou and a more road-dependent headland trip. Choose one first; adding both deserves another day and usually a base change.

A complete three-day, two-base first route
The flagship protects central Weihai, Liugong Island and Chengshantou as three different products. The central-bay day and Chengshantou are fully specified route-only stops with real photographs and exact arrivals; only Liugong links to a complete guide. A delayed island return cancels the base change before it creates a fragile eastern-coast day.

The western beach and university side can suit a beach-led stay, but it lengthens the trip back to the passenger centre and history core. Compare Weihai stays on Trip.com for the central trip, or compare Rongcheng stays when the eastern headland is the priority. Check the exact property pin, international-guest policy and room terms; a city label does not guarantee a short transfer.
Day 1: make the central bay a connected city day
Start around the central bay and Huancui side, then follow the public waterfront selectively rather than trying to collect every park. From the neutral central anchor used in the route audit, Happiness Gate is about 0.6 km / 8 minutes on foot and the Huancui Tower visitor centre about 0.5 km / 7 minutes. Use the shore for sea air and changing views, not a guaranteed swimming or sunset product. Wind, fog, rain, surf and temporary coastal controls should decide how much of the waterline you walk. Weihai Museum is a useful indoor city-history layer, but it sits outside the tight central cluster: the same dated road model puts it about 5.1 km / 13 minutes by car from the central anchor. Confirm current entry and opening arrangements before making it the day's fixed appointment.

Day 2: give Liugong Island the history day it deserves
Liugong Island brings together the late-Qing Beiyang naval base, the 1894–1895 conflict and Weihaiwei campaign, later British-leased-period architecture, and an island landscape across the bay. The mainland planning endpoint is the Liugong Island Passenger Centre, not a broad island pin.
The central anchor is about 2.5 km / 33 minutes on foot or 3.5 km / 10 minutes by car from that passenger centre in AMap's 21 August 2026 model. Build the day around the museum and selected heritage, then add one landscape layer; secondary rides and shows are separate products rather than the reason to go.

Check Liugong Island admission with the regular return ferry on Trip.com. Choose only the non-mainland-adult resource that explicitly includes both, then verify the date, document handling and sailing conditions. The sightseeing vehicle, island cruise, submarine, digital theatre and guide services are not part of that standard inclusion unless the selected resource says so.
Chengshantou: a conditional Rongcheng road day
Chengshantou adds an exposed eastern headland, sea horizon and a coastal cultural landscape that feel entirely different from central Weihai. It is also a substantial transfer: the dated AMap road model measured about 71.8 km / 1 hour 17 minutes from central Weihai and still 55.4 km / 1 hour 2 minutes from Rongcheng Station to the visitor centre. Rongcheng reduces backtracking across the region; it does not make the headland station-adjacent.
The operator currently presents a 07:30–18:00 service window, while earlier access belongs to exact date-specific sunrise products. Recheck ordinary admission, passport handling, gate, road conditions, last exit and any transport inclusion for your date. Strong wind, fog, storms or road controls can change the value and feasibility of this exposed coast quickly.
Arrival and the right amount of time
Weihai Station and its coach centre are south of the central bay; Weihai North is west, and Dashuibo Airport is a separate longer arrival. In AMap models checked on 21 August 2026, Weihai Station to the central anchor was about 11.8 km / 19 minutes by car, Weihai North about 8.3 km / 17 minutes, and the airport about 45.2 km / 44 minutes. Treat these as traffic-sensitive baselines, not fixed transfer promises.
Allow two days for the satisfying central product: one bay-and-city day plus one Liugong Island day. Add a third day and a Rongcheng base only when Chengshantou is a real priority. That separation is the key to Weihai: one coast for an accessible city-and-history trip, another for a deliberate headland journey.
