Xi'an Drum Tower
The Xi'an Drum Tower, an iconic landmark in the heart of Xi'an, stands as one of China's largest and best-preserved ancient drum towers. Built in 1380 during the Ming Dynasty, this magnificent structure has witnessed over 600 years of history and served as a time-keeping center in ancient times.
Historical Significance
The Drum Tower was constructed during the early Ming Dynasty under Emperor Hongwu's reign, four years after the Bell Tower. It played a crucial role in ancient Xi'an's daily life, where drums would sound at sunset to mark the end of the day - a practice known as "Morning Bell and Evening Drum" (晨钟暮鼓).

Throughout its history, the tower has undergone several renovations while maintaining its original architectural style. During the Qing Dynasty, major restorations were carried out in 1699 and 1740, helping preserve its magnificent structure for future generations. Despite suffering damage during wartime, particularly in World War II, the tower has been carefully restored and continues to stand proudly as a symbol of Xi'an's rich cultural heritage.
